Anybody out there has experience deploying the application server? I am currently experimenting with it and I am trying to install it on a virtual machine and after the installation process I end up with a linux login screen.
I successfully login to the # prompt but then what? I cannot start the gnome screen, I tried http to the IP address but nothing happens.
What is the next step?

You don't do much on the server itself. You manage it all using the web interface: and the Voicemail Pro client which can be downloaded from the server.

There is no desktop

You can enter login and then root with password.
You can also go to Login in with webcontrol and web.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Thanks for the fast response but I still cannot get it to come up @ port 7070, the machine is pinging OK, it's not a communication error although I am getting a weired message
INIT: Id "x" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
that is popping up at about every 5 minutes. Let me try to install on a standalone PC to see if I can get rid of that message and get it to work.

Thanks,

did you read the docs?

it even tells you on the "home" screen on the linux server what to do!

The Linux apps dvd is not supported on a virtual machine yet so this could be your issue.

I really do not think support for a virtual machine is the issue, maybe it could be because I am using VMWare Player instead of VMWare workstation to create the VM. I must confess, I did not read anything, I just jumped in hoping everything was going to work right out of the box, guess I was wrong.
I am going to try Virtual Box and eventually a regular PC if I cannot get it to work.

Can any of you guys tell me if it is wise to use the application server to host Voicemail Pro instead of a Windows based machine? I now money wise it makes a lot of sense.

Thanks,

It does not matter.
The Windows version has more options then the Linux one.
For basic VMPro system the Linux is fine.

Just thought I'd chime in here to say I have this working fine user VMWare.

I never touched anything...

OK now I got it to load on VMWare Player correctly....it will take a little bit to get used to but after thinking about it and going through the correct installation process the only disadvantage I see with the application server, unless I am missing something, is that you cannot have the manager on the same machine as Voicemail Pro and this could make administration more challenging.

Switching topic for a second, anybody out there has had the opportunity to install Voicemail Pro and/or manager on SBS/Standard Windows Server 2011 by any chance? I am aware Avaya is not supporting it yet.

I have run into problems with VMPlayer too, but that was my fault :)

It attempts to do auto install and messes things up.

If you disable that all works fine
