Hello,

We are looking to upgrade to IP Office this summer and wanted to know if you can use these older Nortel sets on IP Office

3904 release 1 and 3
1120E IP sets
i2002 "Polycom" IP Conference phone

I thought I seen that you can use the 3904 sets with either an extra module and/or software update

Thank you,

Chris

You can use T/M series Norstar/BCM sets, 1120/1140 and 1220/1230 sets on IPO. No i200X phones, including the 2033 conference phone are supported on IPO. None of the Meridian 1/CS1K sets are supported on IPO either.

Not all of the M-Series sets are supported. Easiest way to tell is to use the Contrast adjustment feature on the phones. If the phone only provides 4 levels of contrast adjustment then it is a non-supported phone on the IP Office. If you get 9 contrast levels you are good to go.

My advice, even if you had M or T serie's and wanted to migrate to the IPO with Nortel sets, don't do it.
Your customer will thank you for that.

My two cents.

How many people change all the PCs in the office and insist on keeping the old CRT monitors and then think it was a good idea? It's the same thing, those old handsets are crap and were "dated" 10 years ago, never mind now :)

Nortel4Ever
that is a great tip.
Have some pink for that. I will try and get that to our sales people so that the sell newer phones for the older, non-supported phones because we get a lot of customers that want to keep their old Nortel phones and then move gradually over to the Avaya's.

M and T series I don't even find so bad but the 1100 and 1200 series are just a nuisance because they lose so much functionality that they can no longer be called a good phone because my cordless Panasonic at home has better features than they do after running SIP software.

If you still want to keep M/T sets, be careful, not all releases of the phones are supported.

I am shocked, I plugged a set in with a date code of 1989 and it worked on my IP Office, strange.

Just remember that "works" and "supported" are two different concepts. That said, I have yet to run into a "regular" Norstar phone that didn't adequately work for the situation.
