IP Office 6.0 (18) IP question

Hello

I have a quick question. When the SMTP service try's to send an email from the embedded VM what IP address does it use to originate the message from? I ask because the public side of the IP office 500 V2 is connected to the public side of the network on LAN 2. We use LAN 1 for the phones only. We can not get the SMTP to work and I am 100% certain its a routing issue.

It's up 5o you with yout ip route in the ipo.

Some people opt for 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0 lan 1.

This is a catch all and a security risk.

Your ipo should never be direct connected to the internet.

We do not have a default IP route in the IP Office because of security. I am only routing the address of the SMTP to the DG via LAN2. What is weird is I never see the IP office even try to contact the server. When I watch the log I see the SMTP awake and instantly go to snoozing. Is there some known issue in the release we are using that may cause this?

Can you ping from the IP500 to the exchange? It's not 365 is it?

In R6 SMTP can only be used over TCP port 25 with unencrypted(plain text) data.
Use system monitor or wireshark to see if there is any SMTP traffic leaving IP Office either over LAN1 or LAN2.

I connected to a LAN on a IP Phone and I see the trace run to the SMNP leaving the LAN 2 port and reaching the server with no issues. But when I do a monitor for IP traffic and watch the SMNP I only see the service wake up and snooze all within a millisecond, my guess is it never try to send the packets. I am using port 25 as well.

I assume you mean SMTP in your last post.

If this is so then I would disconnect the IPOffice on LAN2 and connect your laptop to the router and give yourself the IP Address of LAN 2.

Then start up Putty and connect to the SMTP address using telnet and port 25. Follow these steps to send a test email.
