We're switching out a Partner with an IPO
There is a Gate Phone connected to a Trunk port on the Partner.
Gate Phone: Select Gate 2" (SG2C) Gate Controller by SELECT ENTRY SYSTEMS
I found the install Doc for this equipment, but it sheds no light on this issue

Function on Partner
[ul]
[li]Press Gate phone button[/li]
[li]Line 4 lights up and rings on Partner[/li]
[li]User answers, talks to caller and supplies DTMF to open Gate[/li]

[/ul]
Function on IPO
Connect Gate phone Controller to trunk port 9 (GRP 15,Loop Start,No CLID)
Trunk light on port 9 stays out (BTW- The Gate Controller is NOT providing any "Battery")
So...
[ul]
[li]Push Gate phone button[/li]
[li]See IPO Trunk port 9 flash[/li]
[li]Caller hears what amounts to the IPO doing an initial impedance test on the line when a Trunk is first plugged in. Lot's a strange frequencies.[/li]
[li]Call drops[/li]
[ul]
[li]Trunk light stays out[/li]
[li]Repeats each time the button is pushed on the Gate phone.[/li]
[/ul][ul][/ul]
[li]IPO Trunks function normally if you connect an actual Trunk to them.[/li]
[/ul]

Any thought on salvaging this?
Did this application work on the Partner "by accident" ?

The key here is that the Gate Phone does not provide any "Talk Battery", when it is idle.

When you press the Call Button on the gate Phone it is sending out "Ring Generator" that is super imposed on its own "Talk Battery".

The first presence of Talk Battery is interpreted by the KSU as a New Line Connection.
That is why you get the Impedance testing Sounds.

Solution:
The Gate Phone has Tip & Ring IN and Tip & Ring OUT.
You can use one of the Analog Station Ports (if you have one) on a Combo Card and send it to the Gate Phones Tip & Ring IN connection point.

That will provide Talk Battery while the Gate Phone is idle.

The ACS did not have any Impedance Testing and that is why it worked.

THANKS Billxx [thumbsup2]

I'll try that:
I do have an extra analog port and luckily, the "IN" pair on the Gate phone, although not connected currently, do hit the Dmarc.
