HI All
We currently have an IPO 500 V2 which uses expansion ports and digital hand sets,
what do we need to do in order to use an avaya VOIP handset (say 9608) with the system? Do we need any additional licences or software configs?
Thanks

You need an Avaya IP Endpoint license and something to power the phones(PoE switch or PoE injector). You also need a qualified business partner to configure the system to use IP phones. It is not plug and play.

And you need VCM capabilities in your chassis if you don't have some right now.

Thanks,
We have a VCM32 card, so that should cover that off.

When you say configure the server for IP phones, do you mean setup the HTTP server etc amongst other things?

You need to decide if your IPO will deliver addresses via DHCP or if you will statically assign them. You'll need to decide if you want the IPO on a VLAN or on the main subnet. Installing the phones is relatively straightforward. Install your endpoint licenses then plug in the phone. Configure the phone as described. Then once the two are talking you just assign the phone an extension. I like to use the setting on the IPO to automatically create H323 extensions. It gets more complicated though depending on your network design.
