Hi Folks

Looking for Advice on upgrading our 403's

the units currently run 2.1(77) and have DT 2050 Handsets attached to them 1 site has a POTS unit too. From what I read the highest level I can go to is 3.0DT I have downloaded the Admin CD from the link at

Reading the Support docs it seems I can jump directly from 2.1(77) to 3.0DT as it is past 2.1(33).

Now heres the questions :)

1) Will I need to upgrade both units at the same time as they are at seperate locations so if i upgrade at site 1 will site 2 stop working (all external calls are routed to site 2 from site 1) until i upgrade it too?

2) We run voicemail it is at 2.1 according to the docs this requires no uggrade will it "just work" once upgraded?

3)The attached Image is our current Units as you can see 1 parts show as unknown interconnect should i just delete these first? they are a dead expansion unit

4) the reason behind the upgrade is that we are having trouble routing over an IPSEC VPN and the VPN suppliers would like the firmware at the latest version to ensure it is not a software fault any one else had this problem? Site 1 will show the Info of the call on the display i.e. Extension number and Name but the call doesnt complete this ofc works fine outside the VPN on our private circuit.

Does this all look sound to continue with the upgrade? Any gotchas or tips greatfully recieved as I have never done this process before :)

Cheers

Paul

V3.0DT is simply a rebadged V2.1
your actual problem is unlikly to be firmware related.

1st check there is no port blocking on the VPN, this is the usual cause of VoIP issues.

failing that you may have miss programmed your IPO's.

The tech's are adamant there is no port blocking on the firewall(i personally think the issue is a firewall issue)

What could i Have missed on the IPO side if it works AOK when not in the VPN surely its one in the same IP traffic is IP traffic?

Unless there are some ISPEC specific settings I am missing?

Also make sure that you have a return ip route created in IPO.

yeah both subnets have routes in the iprouting tab the funny thing is it works when either end is not routed over the vpn

i.e. Site 1 is routed via the current leased and site 2 is routed via the VPN the calls will work, it only fails when BOTH ends go through the vpn it reeks of traffic blocking somewhere to me.

So you currently have two different connections for one line ?

Ofcourse this does not work !

lol ofc I don't have 2 connections for 1 line.

i do however know how to type

ip route 10.2.0.0 255.255.255.0 10.0.0.10

or

ip route 10.2.0.0 255.255.255.0 10.0.0.254

into our gateways :p

if it helps understand the problem the below should makeit clearer.

10.0.0.10 Pvt Circuit
10.2.0.10 pvt Circtuit

10.0.0.254 VPN
10.2.0.254 VPN

Works
10.0.0.0/24 via 10.0.0.10
10.2.0.0/24 via 10.0.0.10

works
10.0.0.0/24 via 10.2.0.254
10.2.0.0/24 via 10.0.0.10

works
10.0.0.0/24 via 10.2.0.10
10.2.0.0/24 via 10.0.0.254

FAILS
10.0.0.0/24 via 10.2.0.254
10.2.0.0/24 via 10.0.0.254

I have logs showing the H323 flow after the accept we get nothing when no channel created. I would change the inital post as it seems the VPN guys were well off with and I'll not risk a firmware upgrade I was really just clutching at straws.

we have so often had this case and it was mostly the network that blocked some kind of ports.
Sorry if the network guys tell you nothing is blocked don't believe it, have them show you or try yourself.
open a command prompt and type
telnet <ip address of remote system> 50804 then hit enter
you should get a blank screen and then some funny symbols if OK ???
You can test with the local system so you know how it should be.
Try the same for the other IP Office ports not all of them will respond though but it gives you the jist of it if all are not working :)
