Hi All

I've installed an Exchange 2003 server (sp2) on a Wk3 box and when I try and send emails to the outside world I get an NDR back with the following

== SOM ==

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject:
Sent: 25/08/2006 14:38

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

me@nospam.com on 25/08/2006 14:38
You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For assistance, contact your system administrator.
<my_Server_name #5.7.1 smtp;550 5.7.1 <ne@nospam.com>... Relaying denied. IP name lookup failed [1.2.3.4]>

== EOM ==

Now the 1.2.3.4 IP address that seems to have failed the lookup is the IP address of the exchange server. I've checked the DNS and it has a reverse DNS record, DNS looks OK. I am forwarding to a SMART host 10.1.2.3 but from the logs on there - the email never gets to it.

Any body else seen this before? I can't find a simle answer in this theng they call the internet :)

Thanks guys and Gals - Any help is always appreciated.

First of all, do you have an MX record associated with your ip? Can you "telnet mail.mycompany.com 25"?

OK

Sorry for the delay in getting back - have been on hols :)

Yes, the server has an MX record - and I can telnet to the server on 25.

It seems that the server has been closed for relaying which is my problem.
