I sent a 5610sw phone out to one of our offices on the east coast. They have a hardware VPN device (Cisco ASA 5505) that connects them to our corporate network. The phone registers with the system just fine and is able to make/receive calls.

At random times the phone will drop calls. Sometimes when the call drops the call timer on the phone will continue ticking and sometimes the phone will do a full reboot.

I have used the monitoring tool to look at things from our end and it appears the phone is loosing its registration with the ip office system.

I have checked the network connection between here and the east coast office, we are not dropping packets BUT the connection response time is a little slow (80 - 120ms)

My question is, what type of latency can the system handle with these phones? If i have them use a soft phone the connection works just fine.

My system: IP Office 412 (5.0 release 15)

Thanks for your help!

In the ASA box ensure there are no entries in the following:

Configuration > Firewall > Objects > Inspect Maps > H.323
Configuration > Firewall > Objects > Class Maps > H.323

You will also need to disable the global timeouts of H323 and TCP / UDP, set them to 0:00 then uncheck them. If you leave them unchecked without zeroing out the time it will leave them on their default timers :)
