Hello all, we are having a strange fault with the above message on "i2004" ip phones.Although it thinks there is a conflict ,when we disconnect the phone and ping the address the pings stop ,so there is not really a conflict. It quotes a mac address of 00-0a-e4-70-3f-81 mapped to ip 10.106.252.98.
Now this address on the dhcp server has a totally different mac address mapped .
Any ideas ??
Thanks

Any of the scopes overlap ?

Set an adress manually, wait for it to connect and set it back to dhcp afterwards. The phone maybe needs to upgrade the software and if you don't have the latest available software installed on the node, well install it. This has been a problem for me sometimes. Don't know why but it's worth a shot trying it.

Hi , no overlap of scopes and they are originally set up with a static and then dhcp after firmware upgrade .

Thanks once again

Is the data base on the DHcp server is corrupt.....
windows ?

Use the advanced feature of windows dhacp to ping to make sure that the ip address in not in use .

We experience this episode , and the only way that we were able to correct the problem was by power cycling POE on our 460 / 5520 switches .After this was done we noticed that the the arp table on the passport no longer held the same mac address to two different IP's.

Are you running a SMLT enviroment ? Have you experienced any loop in your network closets.
Our problem was a result of one of your closets some how resetting and losing its MLT settings . Although this was quickly identified and resolved the IP phones were effected since and the only fix was to recycle POE on the effected ports.

You can have an IP confict and remove the cable and pings stops, this is no test.

If A has 111.111.111.111 as address and B comes on with 111.111.111.111 as it's address. You'll get an IP conflict. It will disable 1 of the points, in theory the new one. If it happens to be the old address getting outed, then, you remove the new and hey presto, the pings stop. Not because the new one is active, but because the old one is disabled and the new one is stealing the old ones address.
I'm not much of a server guy, but I believe you need to remove the DHCP Scopes? for both the MAC addresses of the phones and try again. It may be you have a static on the old and a DHCP reservation on the new, hence the clash.
