I have a new 8300 installed internationally. And becuase of distance and time we opted to do the initial installation with two dcp cards instead of implementing ip desk phones. With the built in ip VM (using 12 ip ports[I know - overkill]) and I am using 10 channels for ip trunks, if I wanted to install some ip based telephones, how do I determine how many more IP based devices I can implement before installing another media module to handle additional ip stations? I realize that I will need station licensing.

Thanks,

The "IP trunks" to your IA770 use "H323 trunking", that has nothing to do with IP phones. You didn't specify the type of gateway, or what you have in it for cards, but in general you don't have to worry about it, unless you have multiple PRI's and a lot of analog devices that will all be in use at the same time.

Some capacitys:

G350 gateway: 32 VoIP channels
G700 gateway: 64 VoIP channels
G450 gateway: anywhere from 20 to 240 VoIP channels

Currently in the pbx:
1 PRI card - DS1 MM
2 DCP 24 port - DCP MM
1 Analog 8 port - ANA MM
1 MG-Announcement

I believe it has a G700. How do I validate the gateway I currently have? I'm more familiar with the older versions of Avaya.
I thought that the IP trunking would reduce the capacity of current calls thats why I mentioned the IP trunks. Don't the IP trunks play a part in the capacity of the gateway?

Thanks,

I found my original quote/purchase request. It includes a G700. So I guess I'm good for up to 64 voice stations then?

Thanks,

Doesn't work that way, it's a shared resource. Will all 64 IP phones be off-hook at once? doubtful. so you could have many, many more, several hundred, in reality.

Yes, IP trunks do use these resources as well, will ALL of the IP trunk be in use all at once? I doubt it... so again, 64 VoIP resources means a lot more than 64 phones/and/or IP trunks.

Thank you for the clarification. That does make sense regarding the resources in simultaneous use.

Is there a command (command line) to validate the gateway (for peace of mind)? I'm remote to the unit and have never laid eyes on it.

Thanks,
