IP Allocation VIA Router

Hi all

Is there anyone that has used IP Allocation on a router rather than a DHCP Server? I have a site that comes in direct to our LAN but we want a seperate IP Scheme to run off the router. I know its possible but I have never tried it. Is there some where I can check it out? Are there problems with this? The cisco website is a bit of a mess. We currently have a Cat x2 5500`s. Hope you can point me in the right direction.
