Hi,

our main Active Directory controller (Win2003) has 2 NIC's, 1 for our LAN, and 1 for maintenance.
We don't want the maintenance IP to appear in the DNS, so we unchecked the option in the TCP/IP properties of the NIC.

But still, the IP address appears in the DNS. I delete it every day, and every day it returns... What are we doing wrong?

Thanks!

Hmm.. That didn't do the trick..

I changed the registry key and deleted the IP address from the DNS but now, 6 hours later, the IP address is back in the DNS...

Yops. As soon as I restart the DNS server, the ip address is back in the DNS...

Do the changes seem to disappear on the NIC properties itself? If so have you tried disabling your A/V then making the changes? How about reinstalling the tcp/ip stack?

how can I reinstall the TCP/IP stack?

The AV trick didn't help. I should also mention I have a DHCP server running on this server, but it's disabled on the interface I don't want in the DNS...

Typically I would only recommend that option if the changes you are making in Properties under TCP/IP are not actually staying accurate. So if you for example changed your gateway and clicked ok and closed the NIC properties window and then went back in and noticed that they are back to what was there before the change. So if thats not the case this fix will probably not alleviate your problem. Good luck however.

Why not just uncheck "Register this connection's addresses in DNS" and the "Use this connection's DNS suffix in DNS registration" check boxes on the connection you don't want to show up?

OOps, missed that :)

Have you looked in DNS, take properties on the computer in question, then the "inferface" tab? And "Only the following IP addresses"?

Dammit.. the Interface was still active in the DNS..

/me smacks myself in the head...

thanks all!
