We have a small office LAN connected with a Server. In one client having windows2000 os there was LAN problem the server could not be pinged from this client. I changed the IP and the problem was removed but as soon as we restart the client it takes the original IP and the same problem reoccurs. When I change the IP to another one this again the client comes on the LAN. I could not understand why it is changing the IP to the original one when we restart it?

Can someone provide me the solution?

Thanks,

Are you sure the PC is shutting down properly?

Do you only have one nic card in the computer? Try this, uninstall the card remove all the nic protocals and drivers for the card. Reboot the computer without the card it in. shut down install the card as if it was a new card, reset all of the protocals. give that a try. Sounds like some how the nick is not letting go of the settings. Removing the card and reinstalling the card will clear all protocals.
