IP 500 V2 Change Control Unit

Is there a way to change the type of control unit on the IP 500 v2 Control Unit? I just noticed as I was building out a new system that the control unit has 2 expansions plugged into the internal ports on the front along with the PRI. They are both DS (1-8) 700417330 parts that have 12 digital ports but when I look in the Server Edition Manager they are listed as DIGSTA8 and only have 8 extensions to build upon. I am not sure how to go in and change these so there are actually the 24 ports I'll need without wiping out the system.

Uh what? DS8 cards only have 8 extension ports. The other 4 ports (9-12) are used for trunks. You cannot change this.

Uh what is right...Let me try to paint a better picture. here is what I have listed in the Control Unit Config

1) IP 500 V2
2) DIGSTA8
3) DIGSTA8
4) VCM64 V2/ATM4 V2
5) VCM64 V2/PRIS U
6) DIG ADPX30 RJ45B
7) DIG ADPX30 RJ45B
8) ANALOG POTS30V2
9) ANALOG POTS30V2
10) ANALOG POTS16V2

In my extension list when assigning the base extension numbers I have the correct amount for Dev. No. 6-10 which are the digital and analog expansion units plugged into the back of the control unit. In the four slots in the front of the control unit, the first 2 slots on the left are digital cards that have 12 ports a piece for the rest of my digital phones the other 2 slots to the right are the analog trunk/pri cards.

The problem I am seeing is that in the extension list I have Module BD1 and BD2 with 8 ports each. I do not see the internal units for my digital extensions? So is Dev. No. 2 & 3 listed as DIGSTA8 totally wrong and if so can that be changed to the correct hardware without wiping the configuration in place or are those automatically detected? I was thinking at some point during the initial configuration you can define what those are and they may have been inputted incorrectly?

The base cards have 12 physical ports. 8 of those are for the 8 extension ports. The other 4 are used by the optional trunk cards that can be added to onto the base card.

So the solution to your "problem" is to add another Digital Station 8 base card to the system.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

BD1 and BD2 are cards for digital extensions. They are 12 port cards, but they only have 8 digital ports on them. The last 4 ports are for trunks. You won't get 12 digital ports out of those cards. Just wont happen.

It all makes sense now. I think the analog trunk card is going to get pulled and replaced as suggested.

Well you can't just pull the analog trunk card. That card is sitting on the vcm64. You'll need to remove a base card to put another one in .

Why do you have two VCM64 cards? are you going to have 128 SIP channels?
You also have a PRI card for ISDN.
Do you know what you are doing and are you being fooled big time?

a) You need to exchange one of the VCM32 with a DS-8, and put the daughter card on top of it (either the PRI or ATM)
or
b) Get a DIG-16 expansion module (This is probably the easiest fix for you, and you get twice as many ports to expand on)

In your response to if I know what I am doing the answer is no. I am an IT Director for a hospital that bought a large system from our local telco for small town political reasons. They dropped off a bunch of boxes and I havent really seen them since so I have been getting this setup based off of youtube videos and reading avaya guides.

I am taking your suggestions back to them as I am not too happy and looking to the vendor for support hear on out.

How many phones do you have?
What type of trunks do you have?
How many channels do these trunks have?
Which licenses do you have? (or post the dongle number, the licenses are tight to the dongle) We can't do anything with these licenses so don't worry


Were are you based? perhaps somebody here can help you out for a normal hourly rate.

How many phones do you have? About 150 digital and 90 analog
What type of trunks do you have? Not sure on the type of trunks. We have 2 control units to spread the extensions out on for somewhat of a failover. each CU has its own PRI
How many channels do these trunks have? Not sure how many channels. That is something the telco needs to address. I have them all enabled but get a licensing warning.
Which licenses do you have? (or post the dongle number, the licenses are tight to the dongle)

2 - Receptionist
3 - Server Edition
5 - Power User
Some Voicemail Pro Licenses
IP500 Universal PRI (Additional Channels) - There re 2 licenses for each CU that says they each have 2 instances

So far I think I have done really well getting everything setup. I can place inbound and outbound calls. Voicemail Pro is working. I am able to setup the auto attendants. I was just stuck on the hardware situation and frustrated.

I should have contact with a company called Jenne out of Ohio for support, but I really like using these forums. I try to help others in IT based areas as you have helped me here.

OK, clear.

What i do not understand is that you have a server edition with two IP500v2 expansion systems.
The server edition is IP only but the only IP is the trunks from the expansion systems to the server.
You do not need the server edition as it is much more expansion and you could have had enough with two IP500v2's for redundancy.
Everything you have is digital or analog but no IP at all.

Setting up a server edition without any experience is a hard job to be honest.
My opinion based on this info is that you got ripped off.

240 phones is easy done by one IP500v2.

We have some projects in the future with Nurse Call systems and also Physician dictation that may require SIP lines. We had a Nortel Option 11c for 10 years and I wanted to buy everything we could even if it was somewhat overkill so we could have options in the future for whatever we would want to do. The cost of the new IP Office systems are pretty affordable so I knew going into it that server edition wasnt fully necessary but also didnt want to have hardware limitations of any sort if something came up on a whim that we wanted to tackle.

Ok if you knew it then it is a choice
I like the server edition and we run one too in our company.
It also explains the VCM64's in the system.
But i still would have gone (if possible) for IP phones instead of digital.
IP phones are way more flexible.
