I've got port 8 enabled as LAN 2 on an IP 406 V2. Connected to an MPLS, I'm trying to place calls on a voip trunk to a second branch. I am able to ping from the private lan (LAN 1) to the branch, and from the branch to the private lan.

With H323 tracing enabled, when I try to place a call to the branch, I get a H323 RX back from the branch:

H323Rx: 71 src=192.168.x.x:1720
H323 Pcol=08(Q931) Reflen=2 ref=001E(Local)
Message Type = ReleaseComplete

The destination address on the RX from the branch is also to the Public interface, (LAN2 at the main site). I'm thinking it should be LAN 1, where my call originated?

Also should the H323 gatekeeper be enabled on LAN2?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Interestingly, calls are successful from the branch to the main office. Using shortcodes for the moment to route the calls.

>Do you have direct media path on or off, it should be off over routed destinations
Why?

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

It only needs to be off if you haven't routed properly, I have direct media path enabled between an IP Office and a Definity with a simple routed link and I have no issue's with it :)

Here is a failed call from A to B. Sysmon is running on site B. The source address: 192.168.16.2 is the LAN2 interface at Site A. The call was initiated from LAN 1 at Site A

Check the IP routes on site B.
It cannot connect to 192.168.20.10
Check if your firwall is blocking ports.
Also check it's subnetmask it must be 255.255.255.0 on site A/B

Is this user in the system ?

honey, i fried the IP Office !!!

Sarcasm, it's only one of the services I offer.

Tipter, I changed the ascii in the trace to protect the innocent. The true actual user in the error msg does exist.
The trace is what you see on site B when the call is placed from the "dual homed" site A.
Able to use system status at either site to ping any interface, from LAN1 or LAN2 in site A to site B or to LAN 1 and LAN2 from Site B. so routing must be OK.

No FWs in place at this time.

Checked the FW on the LAN2 of both IPO's?

BAS, Site A configured with two LAN ports. Site B configured with one.

I have re read it but i do not understand it.
Do you have lanq connected to the other site and lan2 connected to the other site too ?

Thanks tlpeter, Site A has been configured with two networks: LAN1 and LAN2.
The route to Site B is through the interface on LAN2.
So I've got a route on the IPO in Site A from LAN1 to LAN2 (on site A) and a route from LAN2 on Site A to Site B. Site B is configured with one network.

Can you route calls between them by trunign off SCN and using shortcodes?

That is using a straight H323 trunk rather than a H323 trunk with supplementary services

Are you sure that voice networking is turned off?

If it is turned on then it looks for users and when it is turned off it will never look for users but only for numbers that are dialed!!!

your traces shows a user name which it cannot find.

Using* .....please don't sing Matt

Why not - I happen to sing very well - I record all of our music on hold acapella! People say it is very like a cat's interpetation of "Girls Aloud" songs - I also have the legs to match

<men in white coats arrive and drag Matt back to la-la land>

<after medication>

I didn't notice the shortcode bit...

I'd be tempted, for testing to put a line side shortcode of

TN - ?
feat - Dialextn
TN - <valid local extn>

and dial any 4 digit extn from teh remote site - it should then be routed to the <valid local extn>. It sounds like the local side can't understand the dialled digits. This would prove or disprove that.
and see what happens - logs of the local side woudl be good too
