Internet of Things ?
But who is really wishing this nightmare ?
We must figure out that such horrific picture is depicting a reality where we will not be owner anymore of our things, because they will be controlled remotely, outside our wish.
Thermostats that can be hacked and controlled by hackers that can penetrate into systems far well protected than a thermostat can be, blackmailing the owner to pay or to freeze.
Peacemakers hacked in the same way. Even toasters, washing machine, television sets, our car, everything will be potentially at risk.
Not to speak about the possibility that will not be cyber criminals but governments to control our own lives.
Personally I will never get in my house anything that can be remotely controlled.
Never.
Nobody has such real need.

Oh, but think of how the government could use it to help us! They could control how much electricity we use, the temperature of our homes, what programs we see on TV, what station we listen to on the radio, how much food we keep in the fridge, etc., etc., etc.

Having said that, I think there can be a use for some IoT. I just want that any IoT devices have safeguards on them to protect me, my property, my privacy, and so forth.

Anyone else want to chime in?

While I see the need in some cases for this IoT stuff, I'm mostly in agreement with Masterguba on this. The KISS principle should apply. As I've mentioned elsewhere, a Cost-Benefit-Risk analysis should be done for each object one is considering connecting to the net.
