Can you guys point me toward a cost-effective Inventory Control Software for a community health organization with around 100 employees? This software can be network compatible or non-network compatible.

Secondly, it has to be Windows compatible.

Are there any point of sale activities going on? Or, are you just trying to keep track of supplies? If all you are doing is tracking items that aren't sold, such as a hotel tracking its towels and little shampoo bottles, then you may want to consult with someone in your area on a custom software wrote in excel or something. If there are sales tracking please post back more info.

I'm just trying to keep track of supplies.

Hi Arsynic,

Could you tell us a bit mroe about the supplies your trying to track? Are they consumed or checked in and out? Maybe give a couple of examples and we'll be able to help you better.

They are consumed. It's like medical supplies and office supplies that our purchasing guy orders and keeps in our inventory. He just needs software to keep track of what he has and what he needs.

Have you considered a horizontal package like Quickbooks? It has every kind of inventory management that you are likely to need, is reasonably priced and has tons of people already using it, so support/training shouldn't be hard to find.
Inputing new stock as it arrives would be done in the purchase orders portion of the program. This section could also handle returns and rma's if needed.
Recording stock usage might be a hassle, since a new invoice would probably be needed each time something is removed from the storeroom. You might want to use a paper system to streamline that during the day, and have someone enter the invoices during slower times. There may also be a more streamlined "sales" entry system available as a third party product.
Hope it helps!

If it's stupid but it works, it isn't stupid

If you are using Micros than I would advise to install Materials Control from Micros-Fidelio. Nice product, flexible and fully intergrated with Micros. On the other hand it can be interfaced to many systems.

There's always "Northwind". In Access>Help>Sample Databases>Northwind.
How economical is Free!
And customizable.
But if it was just office supplies, I would just use Excel, and if needed something fancy, plug in a little VBA.
Problem with these is importing from a portable scanner, would probably have to download to a .txt then import.
