Having abandonded our efforts to run a report using the Crystal Print Engine, we are attempting to run the reports through the RDC using C++. However, upon running the report, we are getting the error "Invalid TLV Record."

This error occurs even on the machine that has the Crystal Report Designer installed. We have tried to run this query with multiple reports, each of which produces the same results. A query on Google suggests that there are two issues: 1). There is an problem with the installation, or 2). The report file is corrupt.

By running this on multiple reports, we can eliminate the second option. We are running the program on the machine that has the full Crystal installation; I would think that that should eliminate the first option!

The Crystal documentation on this issues was particularly unhelpful. Does anybody have any ideas/suggestions/experience with this issue?

TLV=Total Length Value, or so I have been told.

I have experienced this and it went away when I verified my database in crystal under, database, verify database.

No, that's not the problem. I've verified the database, and still no luck.

BTW, TLV stands for Tag, Length, Value, and seems to have been supplanted by TSLV (Tag, Schema, Length, Value) as per the Crystal knowledge base article

Any other suggestions? My head's starting to hurt from banging into this brick (crystal?) wall....

Dear Joel,

Did you note at the bottom of the kb article it states:

<<snip>>
A Hot Fix update addressing this issue is available as indicated below. With this file update, this issue has been resolved and it is possible to recover previous reports.

ftp://ftp.crystaldecisions.com/outgoing/EHF/CR80MAINWIN_EN.ZIP

This issue is corrected in the following component:

Crw32.exe, version 8.0.0.487, dated 10/11/2000
Crpe32.dll, version 8.0.0.487, dated 10/11/2000
<</snip>>

There is a hotfix for 8.5 also, the kb article is:

The reason I bring this to your attention is that I had that issue with several reports and applying the hotfix repaired.

Thank you. I'll give that a try; I had over loked it because we are using Crystal Reports 9.0, while the hot fix is intended for 8.0. But, it might work (and at this point, I'm grasping at straws--I've even contacted Crystal's tech support <gasp> :))

Dear Joel,

I wouldn't apply a hotfix to a later version.. especially for CR9. I don't know what the results would be, but I think not good...
