Invalid Database Specification Windows 7

I am having the error "Invalid Database specification" when running Accpac 5.5 under Windows 7. I setup the Database connection using the Native SQL.

Any ideas? Need more info just ask

What version of SQL are you running?

Is this an upgrade (either Accpac or SQL) or fresh installs?

Have you had any other connections create problems?

In the database setup, are you connected via data source or server and if its data source, does the ODBC connection provide 'Connection Successful' when tested?

Win7 64 bit? Use the 32 bit ODBC admin to create the DSN.

Run C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe
Create the SQL DSN for the server, use the same name as the one in the 64 bit DSN.

I ran it and the same window pops up that I get when I run it from control panel. I deleted it and set it up again. same thing.

Sure? If it was there then you got the 64 bit OBDC admin, not the 32 bit one. The screens look the same.
Accpac is a 32 bit app, it will not recognize the 64 bit DSN and therefor you get the fail.

I did not mention that you have to delete the 64 bit DSN, I thought that would have been obvious.

when I run the ODBC as above, I go into the "about" and all of the files but Localized resources DLL have 32 at the end of the file names.

When I open the same window through control panel, I do the same and it shows me the same files?

the shortcut from the control panel show it running odbcad32.exe from the system32 directory?

is this not the same?

I ran the one as directed above, making sure it was deleted.

Installed it as SQL Native client and tried it as just SQL, neither work?

The one in the control panel is not the same as the one in the syswow32 folder.

I have tried it both ways, and they both give me the same error.

Delete both the company and system database DSNs. Use the 64-bit and 32-bit ODBCAD32.exe control panel to confirm this. Then use the 32-bit control panel to re-add both DSNs.

should I be using native client or regular sql run from the cmd line as above?

SQL Native Client - unless you don't want the performance boost, in which case you can use the old SQL client.

I must be missing something, I can get it to run on the same machine under an XP window, but I cannot get it using either 32bit sql driver.
