invalid command ref 05-20-23-00-0403 1

Hi,

I'm using Back-up exec in conjunction with an internal 10/20 TR5 Travan tape drive from Compaq. The tapes are 20GB Travan tapes.

Whenever I chose automatic backup I get the following error-message: "invalid command ref 05-20-23-00-0403"

Has anyone seens this before and if so, have you solved it?

has anyone found a cure or fix for this problem. I am having the same problem, and with all the hoop jumping came to the conclusion that the tape drive is less than desired. I thought I would try uninstalling all of the software and try reloading....did anyone have any success with this option....

I was having the same problem. Just moved the drive to another machine with same result.

Went to

http://WWW.seagate.com

and downloaded the diags for the Travan tape drive (Windows98 version). The diags reported that the unit was not ready.

Suggested cleaning the drive, which I did (alchohol & swab). It's still running the test but passes the "unit not ready stage".

I think it's probably fixed.

Alrighty then!
Well after calling Seagate at 1-405-936-1400. We updated the backupexec to 4.5a. Still no success. Firmware was already updated. I didn't tell him the error code (05-20-23-00-0403) at first just to make sure he would come to the same conclusion. But once I did, now we were really cooking.
And just what is that conclusion you ask? Well that would be as simple as the drive is pooched and needs to be RMA'd. Sorry for the bad news.
