I have a table in a database that I cannot open and gives an "invalid argument" error. The table can be opened in design view, but not in datasheet view. I have tried using the microsoft compact database utility and the Jet comp utility but neither worked. what can i do????

Have you tried importing the table into a new Db and see what happens. Sounds like a corrupt record.

Paul

It does sound like a corrupted file, but even when I try importing the table into another database I get the same error.

I'm not sure what to suggest at this point. Any chance you have a backup?

Paul

Yes, There is a backup tape made every night, but I would have to wait a day or two to get the tape out of storage. I did try using a demo version of a recovery utility called access recovery to see if it would work and it did. The only problem with that is that the demo version only recovers like half of the data and you have to buy the full version for like $300. I can't and won't spend $300, so I guess I'll have to look for a free repair utility or another way to fix my problem.

Maybe you can sort the table decending now and get the other half.[2thumbsup]
Sorry I couldn't be more help but I'm happy to hear you are making progress.

No, thanks for your replies I appreciate them! I'll give your idea a try. I'll figure it out sooner or later, hopefully sooner! Thanks again for your help!

I remember a similar thread involving memo fields. Do you have any of them in your table ?
Try doing a search in the forums.

Try a series of selective queries, changing your "WHERE" clause. You may find you can get some or most of your data. Maybe even figure out the bad record and use a query to delete it. This may take some time; treat it like a binary search and keep changing your target.
