Hi People,

This is my first post, I am Paolo from sunny England.

Having taken the 640-801 CCNA exam and failed with 796, I have decided to retake doing the seperate Intro and ICND exams, as I feel it is more appropriate for me.

My question is, is there much in the way of Lab Scenarios in the Intro exam? To be honest it was not the labs that I failed on in the CCNA exam, I am just curious to find out what to expect

thanks

Paolo

Paolo1976,

I agree with Dan - that is maybe 2 or 3 wrong answers! If you had said you failed it 3 times - then maybe I would agree.

What books have you studied (yes BOOKS!)? What sims are you working with and are you working with your own lab of Cisco equipment?

I normally tell students to read a Cisco Press book AND the Sybex CCNA Study Guide and do all the practice tests that come with the books and do all the labs until it is like the back of your hand!

As to sims on the the 2 part exam - I have talked to students who had 2 on the Intro and 1 on the 2nd exam.

Most that I have talked to that have taken both say that the 2 part was harder then the 1 CCNA exam. Most failed at least one of the 2 part option - which ended up causing them to take 4 exams to get the CCNA (failed CCNA, failed exam 1, passed exam 1, passed exam 2) and at least 1 failed both the first time so it took him 5 exams to get CCNA!

Just some thoughts!

Well, I just sat the 604-821 intro and passed with 916. There were two lab scenarios which were totally different to the ones I experienced with the 604-801.

Bring on the ICND!!!

I took the ICND today and passed with 902!! YEESSSS!!!!!
After 5 horrible months of study I finally got there.

I used Cisco Exam Certification Guide by Wendell Odom and Sybex CCNA Fast Pass by Tod Lammle. I found Cisco to be the most comprehensive, whereas Sybex was a less involved but a good "quick reference" tool.

I found the Cisco mock exams to be very usefull (and actually harder than the real exam)

For labs I used Boson Simulator, and also the real thing, as I work with the kit anyway.

Paolo,
Congrats man. I too am taking the icnd tomorrow. Any tips? I have gone through the Sybex book 2x, have completed the testout ccna course and the LearnKey ccna icnd course. I think I am ready. Did you find alot of sims or was there alot of overlap with the intro material like cabling, fastethernet? Just curious. Congrat's again.

Thanks Comptek!

The exam touched base on pretty much all of the syllabus as you might expect. I was quite suprised that there was only one lab sim, whereas the 640-801 CCNA exam (that I failed) had three labs!

If I was to give you any tips then I would say KNOW YOUR SUBNETTING! Plenty of questions on that variation. Also I felt it was quite heavy on STP.

There was a small degree of overlap from the Intro exam covering cabling and ethernet standards.

Good luck mate!
