Hello Friends,
I'm a newbie to 3com networking and I need your help in solving my simple problem.

Problem: I have connected 3com corebuilder 3500 and 3com super stack 3300 to set up intervlan routing to test its features and learn about 3com routing.

Port Fa0/12 on 3500 is connected to Port fa0/12 on 3300 and this link is set up as trunk, with autonegotiation enabled on both ports and tagged as 802.1Q .
Vlan10 and Vlan20 are created on 3300 and ports are assigned. Port 1 on 3300 goes on VLAN10 and port 13 goes on VLAN20.
ip interface define vlan10 192.168.10.254 and ip interface define vlan20 192.168.20.254 are defined on 3500 and Port Fa0/12 is placed in Both VLAN10 VLAN20 and also VLAN1 default This Fao/12 is tagged as 802.1Q to carry traffic across two vlans.
Even port Fa0/12 on 3300 is tagged and placed in VLAN10 VLAN20 and VLAN1.
Remaining ports are on VLAN1 on both devices.
Finally I enabled ip routing function on layer 3.
IP address are set as accordingly on VLAN10 and VLAN20 with 10.254 and 20.254 as gateway.
The Problem is trunk link on 3300 shows active and shows as down in 3500. Pc in VLAN10 cant ping its gateway 10.254 and same with pc in VLAN20. Wireshark shows that no traffic is carried. Pcs cant ping each other.

So then I tried to set up Static route to carry traffic across different Vlans but the command says :>>>Destination not found, and pops up saying "routing table is empty".I tried to bring the link up by changing portmode , portstate , auto features , still it dint work.

Can anyone please tell me where am i going wrong , r am I missing any step.I defined trunks b4 setting up vlans and i went through 3com documentation and followed rules accordingly. 3com documentation says trunk can be set up between 2 or 4 links and the anchor port must be mentioned in VLAN .No ip address for vlan1 is defined. Here I want to use only port ,is it wrong with my design to set up trunk with only one port. The same concept worked with cisco devices.

Awaiting for your reply.

Thank you.

How does your route print look like?

I think you'll need a route add like

route add 192.168.10.0 MASK 255.255.255.0 192.168.10.254 -p
route add 192.168.20.0 MASK 255.255.255.0 192.168.20.254

(-p When used with the ADD command, makes a route persistent across boots of the system. By default, routes are not preserved when the system is restarted.)

Thank you Bas1234 for your suggestion...

Today I tried to configure static route and I came up with same error message saying Unable to define static route. IP address already in conflict, and there is no option for "ADD" in my Layer 2/3 device. The command which I used today is

IP ROUTE STATIC
Enter ip address:192.168.10.0
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.10.254.
Unable to define static route, IP address already in conflict and is used by ather interface.

I think the reason for this is because I already configured vlan10 and vlan20 as 10.254 and 20.254.

As far as my knowledge 3com 3500 is a layer 3 device and it should be able to route traffic between various valans without any static routes. But I donno exact mechanism of how intervlan routing works.

Is there any way of getting around this intervlan routing.

Thanks for ur early post.

Did you add the UDPHelper adress?

Greetzzz..Bas

Hello bas1234......
Sorry for late reply...Can u please tell me in detail how can i add udphelper address and on which port i need to add udphelper address in the above scenario. I tried everything to do intervlan routing and i'm unsuccesful.

port fa0/12 which I used as the trunk port to connect superstack 3300 shows as down...I mean the trunk tcmp state of the port shows as ....."NOT IN USE" And the link is down.
If the status of the tcmp state is "not in use" 3com dcumentation tells that the port is not selected to use as part of the trunk.

I even swapped the ports and still come up with nothin....I need to get this fixed so that I can proceed any further to study about 3com.

Please help me ...

Thank you.

Bas1234 ...

Thank you for your reply...
I'll have a look at the info and implement it.

Cheers

I got it fixed ...
3com recommends that local ID on switch 3300 must be same as Vlan interface index. Then only intervlan routing is possible.

Cheers
