interpretting linked table Decimal as Double in Access 2000

Hello, and thanks for reading this. I am finding that when I use access 2000 and link to a table in sql server or oracle, the standard non integer number format appears to be decimal, which I understand can be better, but I need it to be Double as I often need to put the tables in Access 97.

Any chance anyone knows where I can change this default behavior?
