Hello,
We have a Sun-Fire-V210 box running Solaris 5.10 and has 4GB Memory and 2 X 1.34GHz processors.
As a sysadmin, I have been asked to find out about possible memory expansion on this box. I have done a prtdiag and following is the output -

============================ Memory Configuration ============================
Segment Table:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Base Address Size Interleave Factor Contains
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
0x0 2GB 4 BankIDs 0,1,2,3
0x1000000000 2GB 4 BankIDs 16,17,18,19

Bank Table:
-----------------------------------------------------------
Physical Location
ID ControllerID GroupID Size Interleave Way
-----------------------------------------------------------
0 0 0 512MB 0,1,2,3
1 0 1 512MB
2 0 1 512MB
3 0 0 512MB
16 1 0 512MB 0,1,2,3
17 1 1 512MB
18 1 1 512MB
19 1 0 512MB

Memory Module Groups:
--------------------------------------------------
ControllerID GroupID Labels Status
--------------------------------------------------
0 0 MB/P0/B0/D0
0 0 MB/P0/B0/D1
0 1 MB/P0/B1/D0
0 1 MB/P0/B1/D1
1 0 MB/P1/B0/D0
1 0 MB/P1/B0/D1
1 1 MB/P1/B1/D0
1 1 MB/P1/B1/D1

Apart from the fact above that all the banks (4 in total as i can see above) are full and each bank has 1GB memory. So only possibility is to take out 512MB DIMMs and replace with 1GB DIMMs.
Can anybody validate above stmt.
Also, if I don't have any DIMMs in a bank on a particular machine, how it will be reflected in the prtdiag output.

Many Thanks.

Yes you would have to go with 1GB DIMMS, Sun usually sells their servers with fully populated slots so they would come with the smallest DIMMs possible for a particular configuration.

Hi,

I also have Sun V210 server and this is the prtdiag output:-

============================ Memory Configuration ============================
Segment Table:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Base Address Size Interleave Factor Contains
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
0x0 1GB 1 BankIDs 0
0x1000000000 1GB 1 BankIDs 16

Bank Table:
-----------------------------------------------------------
Physical Location
ID ControllerID GroupID Size Interleave Way
-----------------------------------------------------------
0 0 0 1GB 0
16 1 0 1GB 0

Memory Module Groups:
--------------------------------------------------
ControllerID GroupID Labels Status
--------------------------------------------------
0 0 MB/P0/B0/D0
0 0 MB/P0/B0/D1
1 0 MB/P1/B0/D0
1 0 MB/P1/B0/D1

Can anyone tell me whether 2 or 4 DIMM slots are being used ?
Also how much is the max capacity of memory in V210 (8GB or 16GB) because some sites mention it as 8GB and some as 16 GB?

Thanks in anticipation
