I have a LAN and on the computer which connects to the net, the internet connection works fine. However the other computer on the network cannot access the internet.

Both computers talk perfectly to each other and can both share files. However I cannot understand why it cannot access the internet.

When I try and view a web page in IE, I just get the 'Page cannot be displayed' for some reason.

All help is greatly appreciated!

how does the computer that accesses the net connect? does it have a modem of sorts connected or does it access it via a router/firewall on the LAN?

If you have internet connection sharing then on the computer that does not connect to the internet directly you will need to use the other computers IP address as the default gateway. This will only work if you have Internet Connection Sharing enabled. If the computer that can access the internet is connecting to the internet via a router then you will need to use that routers IP as the default gateway for the computer that needs to connect to the internet.

PC1 (comp. which accesses the net) accesses through a modem. How would I set the default gateway if this is the case???

Thanks

on your other pc (PC2?) you need to go into the network properties and make sure the gateway is the address of PC1.
If you have a personal firewall on this may cause problems until configured (Zonealarm etc - watch out for PC-Cillin 2002 etc which has built in firewalls.

ICS MUST be turn on for this to work, there is also a wizard on XP. What OS are you running?

Hey buddy are you using a router to access the net with other computers. If so, is the router set up for DHCP?
