Ok my 2 problems is recently my computer experienced a registry error which indicated something wrong with a hive...I ran chkdsk /f through recovery which started my computer normally ever since then though my interenet doesnt work and I have tried everything from various reg fixes to even deleting the winsock and winsock2 (i backed them up prior to doing so) to even an ipconfig release and renew also when I run ping all the packets comeback fine but my firefox and internet explorer dont work? when I start them they act like there loading and never load they basically get stuck with no message that anything is wrong?? Lastly everytime I start my computer chkdsk runs everytime but I found a thread on here that I will see if I can fix it. My version is XP home oem. Can anyone help please thanks. I have an SATA hard so Im wondering if that is the problem?? Thanks in advance... Oh also I have 3 computers and the internet work on all the others and I have matched the settings from both and they looked valid.

Have you cleaned out the Temporary Internet folders and other Temp files? Maybe there is a problem with corrupted Index.dat files, have a read of this.

Is there a problem in the Hosts file, C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc ?

For IE6 there is this.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

When I worked in high-speed internet tech support, I got questions like this a lot. One of the answers is almost too easy to think of.

Try going to your TCP/IP properties(Advanced) and disable DNS registration for this computer. 9 out of 10 times, that solved it.
