Hi

I am having a problem with my Linksys 8 port router and DSL modem, every now and then, maybe once a day sometimes more my internet disconencts and the only way to get it back on is to turn the router and modem off and then back on. I think it is caused by playing a game over the internet but it only happens sometimes when i play the game. Does anyone know what is causing this and how it can be fixed?

Thanks for the help

Tim

no not overheating problem because i just restart them im not letting them cool down

Make sure you set a cloned MAC address in the advanced section of your router config. Use the same MAC address as the network card that was originally used to connect to the internet.

i never had just a computer connected through the dsl originally i got the router then i got the dsl about a week later and it has been through the router the whole time so what mac address should i use?

Cloning the MAC address is often necessary for cable systems, but very rarely a requirement for DSL.

You might play with a different firmware version, as I suspect the demands made by your game are causing a buffer overrun. Setting up logging may let you identify this as the problem.

If this is the BEFSR81 Version 3 router, see my links in this thread: thread916-847428
