Once in a while my internet will go down for a day or so at a time. It even goes down when i am not running any programs that use the internet. Yesterday when i got back from work aim, mozilla, and ie wouldn't connect to the internet. I know this may be a broad question but is there anywhere i should look in particular for this problem? Could the modem be tempermental? I recently changed my ip adress to static and yesterday I tried connecting my computer with out the router and it would not connect. So i think it may be the modem and not the router but i don't know if changing the the ip to static would have affected the modem.

thanks in advance.

What are you using... DSL, Cable, Dialup? What happens if you connect directly to the modem with dynamic ip address set up?

Let us know your results!

I'm using cable. Yeah i guess i will try the dyamic ip. although i was hoping that could be ruled out.

thanks.

Let us know if the dynamic works.
although i was hoping that could be ruled out.

Why did you want to "rule this out"?

It seemed like a pain at the time to set it to static. Yeah i guess i'll try the dynamic tonight. Also is it normal to not be able to access my router if the internet goes down?

switching back to dynamic solved the problem. Road runner uses dynamic so a static ip creates a lot of problems when the ip lease expires every day.
