Hi:

I am in need of some help with Internet Explorer. When I try to open internet explorer I get this message. Internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.
I am running windows xp.
I am connected to the internet with a cable modem. I also use Netscape and aol browsers. No problem with other opening.
I have tryed restoring the system with several dates before the problem. I had no luck with restoring.
I can open IE using safe mode with networking. When I go to normal mode I can't open IE.
I have checked to see if I have multiple instances of winsock.dll, wsock32.dll and wsock.vxd. There was none.
I started having this problem when I went to open aol and got a message that they needed to fix a problem. I let aol fix the problem and after their fix I could not open IE. If anyone can help solve this opening problem It would be appreciated.

Thanks, Jerr

This is a Search results hit from MS IE knowledge base...concerning AOL

Also consider your SSL settings in Internet Options>Advanced
...under "security" check the boxes
use SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0

Try replacing these two files
shdocvw.dll and mshtml.dll
not sure if shdocvw exists in XP

How funny and yet stupid the MS search site can be....after doing a search in their knowledge base while choosing "Windows XP" from the Search-in drop down menu
and entering "Shdocvw.dll".....
I got a lot of hits, but NONE out of 20 with shdocvw.dll in the title -or- "brief description".,

OK, so i open an unrelated link while there just to track down a diff issue and VIOLA~.....there it is....and this is the "title" of the article
"Folder Selection Collapses After You Rename a Folder in Windows Explorer Tree View"

Soooo, I guess WinXP does use "Shdocvw.dll after all!!!!

Thanx for letting me VENT awhile all!!!!!
Blowin' Steam Baby!!.....yeh!

Hi TEKTIPPY4U

Thanks for your thoughts and time. I was able to fix my problem with a program downloaded from this link. I downloaded the LSPFIX to a floppy and run the LSPFIX.exe and rebooted my computer and the problem was fixed.

Thanks so much for your time. I am amazed at the knowledge some of you people have about computers.
HAVE A GREAT DAY AND THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY. JERR
