My aunt has recently installed AOL. It put its own icon in Internet Explorer v6.0. She wants the old icon, the world that revolves with the windows icon, instead of the one AOL put on. I suspect I have to alter something in the registry. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks.....

Un-branding IE5

If you want to remove the third party branding from your IE5 download, here's some tips on how to do it.

To change the title bar branding of IE5 go to the registry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main either delete Window Title in the right pane, or edit the text string to read as you would prefer. Restart IE.

To return the animated icon to Microsoft's default spinning globe go to the registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar edit both BrandBitmap and SmBrandBitmap from their existing entries, and substitute the string 'Default' (or leaving it blank seems to work too). You could change it to other images (one for the small and large icon options) but make sure the image is small enough, the menu bar line will expand to fit the specified image. Restart IE.

Any Favorites additions can be removed in the usual way via Tools | Organize Favorites.
Remember that the branding of IE5 from any vendor doesn't change the main IE5 components, they are the same regardless of the source. (for the technically curious Microsoft issues the core CAB files and the other companies use IEAK to add another CAB with their cosmetic branding changes). There's no need to uninstall the branded IE5 and replace it with a 'real' one from Microsoft.

You can refer to thread608-262939 which discusses this same issue. joegz
