I am having problems accessing the web from home and I wondered if anybody has had simular problems or have any ideas what may be causing it.

I know my connection is OK as this problem occurs both if I dial up through my IDSN line and if I connect through my ADSL line.

Basically what happens is regardless of which page I try to access it just get the white page which no page to display. Si it is as if the IE page has lost contact with my web connection so it doesn't realise I am actually online. (if this makes any sense).

still having problems
one thing I have noticed is that if I put the Properties page up (from the file menu) instead of the address being some thing like this .... it actually is is being directed through c:/windows/exapmlefile.dat/
I have tried to do a system restore, but as I reinstalled my windows earlier this week I cannot do a restore before this date, I have also reinstalled IE 6.0, but I am still having problems.

If this makes any sense please help.

I cannot change my prowser preference. When I toggle the Tools key on the IE toolbar and click on the Internet Options key I receive an error message that reads:
This operation has been cancelled due to restriction in effect on this computer. Please call your system administrator. There is no system administrator as this is a home PC. Any sugggestions?
