I have windows xp home with sp1. I have internet explorer and mozilla firefox on my laptop. THe problem I am having is When I go on different sites the internet explorer won't let me click on the links. If I used firefox I can click on those links. I dont know if it is IE or windows I have also checked my laptop for virus using F-secure and trendmicro housecall.
Any help would be appreciated.

You probably have spyware which has altered IE...

You will need to be able to view hidden Files and Folders which is under [red]Tools->Folder Options->View[/red]

Go into:[blue] C:\Docs and Settings\YourUserName\Local Settings\Temp[/blue]

and delete everything from there, download adware and run it on the custom setting. These steps should get rid of whatever is causing the problem, which is most likely Spyware.

Never use IE again :p

Try some of the ideas mentioned in these nearly related articles.

Troubleshoot Situations Where You Cannot Connect to Secure Web Sites by Using Internet Explorer in Windows XP

This site also has some good thoughts on the issue:
You Receive a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" Error Message When You Post to a Site That Requires Authentication

Make sure your options in IE/ Tools/ Internet Options/ Advanced are correct.

Uncheck the boxes for "Install on Demand" for IE and Other programs (two boxes).

Try running temporarily with the third box "Enable Third Party Browser Extensions" unchecked and see how this goes.

"This specifies that you want to disable features you installed for use with Internet Explorer that may have been created by companies other than Microsoft.
If you encounter problems with Internet Explorer that you cannot resolve, you can use this option to help determine if third-party features are causing the problems without uninstalling the feature. You must restart Internet Explorer after turning this option on or off."

If that stops your errors, you will know where the trouble is.
