Internet Explorer not Launching WP

We are having a problem in which users are unable to open Word Perfect files using Internet Explorer, it works fine in netscape just not I.e. and also only some users...

for example, the users clicks on the link for a WPD and it asks them to "Open or Save to disk" if they click Open Nothing happens, (I believe it trys to open an instance of WP but the file does not display). They can save the file to disk fine.

Anyone know where I should start to look?

A user that doesn't work has this set up;

I.E 6.0
Win 2k
Word Perfect 9

I have users with a very similar problem. If the link is to file://some wp file.wpd, the window begins to open then closes. WP is running in the background. If the same address is typed into the address bar, the document opens fine. This problem occurs with the IE6/WP9 combination. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
