I removed a virus with malwarebytes. All is gone, but although I can connect to the internet wirelessly and wired, I am not able to connect to the internet. I receive the message "Internet Explorer Cannot Display the Webpage." All other computers on the same network are working. When going to network sharing center / wireless connections / TCP/IPv4 / properties, obtain IP address automatically is checked in both places. When I go to device manager / network adapters, isatap has a yellow triangle and !. I have tried to go to cmd, run as administrator (it comes up as c:\Windows\system32>) and type in netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt and it did not work. It says "Reseting Echo Request, Failed." Reseting Global, ok!, Resting Interface, Ok!

In addition to the above, every time I turn the computer on I continue to get the Windows Defender message, "Application failed to initialize: 0x80070006. The handle is invalid."

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I would have posted under Virus/Spyware and I doubt the virus is completely gone. What was the virus named? If it was ZeroAccess, then the instructions may change.

What I would do is this:
1. Install and run CCleaner and remove everything found (temp files, etc. - default settings)

2. Download TDSSKiller and run it and remove what is found. It will only take about 2 minutes. Reboot if asked.

If you have any anti-virus software on the computer, remove it before proceeding.

3. Run Combofix. Reboot if asked, but let it run the show and run to completion. Can be run in safe mode if necessary.

Test internet after combofix is all done. If no joy, try your IP resetting again as your mentioned.

I ran all of the above. When running ComboFix I did find "Rootkit.zeroaccess! infected itself into tcp/ip stack. After running all, I still can't connect wired or wirelessly. I also get the Windows Defender message, "Application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba. A problem caused this program's service to stop. To start the service restart your computer or search help and support for how to start this service manually."

Thanks.

In IE/ Tools/ Internet Options via the Connection Tab has anything been set in the LAN Settings Proxy Server box? Most Home users have that setting as blank but Virus infection may change it to something dodgy.

ZeroAccess is nasty stuff. I've been only 50/50 at fixing it. A reload may be in your near future.

The basic principle is this: find which driver files are (still) infected, then replace them with clean ones.

Run these first to see if it can be removed "easily" but also identify the exact driver file infected (e.g. tcpip.sys). So you're running these to see if they will remove it (not for sure) but also to identify any SYS files that are infected. Write them down.

Now use System Look utility to find clean copies of those file on your system by executing it and using the following search string:
:filefind
YourInfectedFileName.sys

Note where clean copies are stored on your PC

Boot to REPAIR mode and go to command prompt.
Rename bad file in c:\windows\system32\drivers to badYourInfectedFileName.sys
Copy clean one over to the same folder from location.

Reboot
Run ESETSirefefRemover.exe and antizeroaccess.exe and combofix again and see if you are clean.

Try repairing the IP stack again.

After that, it's time to call a professional in OR reload OR post your troubles at BleepingComputer or similar. They will take a week to get back to you, but if you can wait, they can probably help you, but you have to provide everything they want and follow instructions explicitly or it will just be a large pain. Do you have the patience?

win32/sirefef was not found on the computer and it was not infected by zeroaccess.

These are three logs I have run:

It says it was successfully reset when I went to cmd, run as administrator and then the netsh winsock reset, but it still doesn't work. When I go to the command prompt and run as administrator it says c:\Windows\system32>. Is that correct? I have also run every tool imaginable. They say I am not infected.

You probably are NOT infected now, but the IP stack is broken. Very common with ZeroAccess. I'd post at one of those specialty forums where they can help you. We don't really do the log file analysis - at least as much as they do.

Or........ Have you tried a system restore to back before all this began. It wouldn't have removed the root kit, but it may fix the IP stack. Try several days before.

When I run an elevated command prompt the Title of the windows is "Administrator: Command Prompt" and the text below is the opening text.

"Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]

C:\Windows\system32>"

Have you run Ipconfig /all from a command prompt? Can you ping your IP address of any Router involved? Can you ping a site like
