Internet Explorar 6 hangs

I now have a new problem. All the time, the internet "hangs" for about 30 seconds. It is highly annoying. I remember reading something about it on this site, but I cannot find the thread where it talks about this problem. Can users please direct me to where this thread is.

If you want to discuss the problem, here's the information: -

I have windows 98
I have Spybot running. Nothing on
I have Nortons systemworks 2002, firewall - no problems
I have got IE6, sp1
I do not have any recent installations (except microsoft updates)
I have "repaired" IE
I think the problem might lie in with Microsoft updates. Have any other reader had similar problems and how did they solve it

I have solved the problem.

If you look at the task schedular by clicking on the icon with a mini clock on the system tray in the bottom right hand side of the window,you may see "windows critical update notification"

It was set to run every 5 mins. That's how come I think my internet holds for about 30 secs. Now, no problem because I think it is because of it. Typical Microsoft!

Hi!

Even though I solved the problem - I still get the occasional "hang", but not as frequently as before. Since I have removed the microsoft critical updates, the internet runs smoothly but i still get the occasional "hang". Can anyone please tell me how to get rid of this problem. I know it is something that is stopping the internet for about 20 secs - how to get rid of it

You might also try these possible fixes:

...try updating your scripting engine at

http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/vbscript/scripting.asp

as well as the Java VM at

http://www.microsoft.com/java

Try going to Start, Run
enter the following, running each line until finished:

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
OK
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
OK
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
OK
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
OK
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
OK
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
OK

(wait for confirmation after each one runs to move onto the next)

Still "hangs"

However, when i run

regsvr32 Shell32.dll

it does not succeed saying the dllregister server was not found . Could this be the cause of my internet hanging?

Possibly...check this article out re: version for idfferent OS.

You might try and download a replacement, install it, and see if there's any joy.

Looks a bit complicated! Any idea how to download it? I have windows 98, IE6 SP1

Just type in a Google search for the .dll and you shoudl get a multitude of hits...go with the most recent vintage you can come across.
