Internet Connection Sharing w/Direct Cable Connection

I've searched for days for howtos on how to set up internet connection sharing. They all go through this process of right-clicking on the connection you wanna share, clicking the Advanced tab, and simply checking a box.

For some reason, this option is not available on my system. The only checkbox that is available is for Internet Connection Firewall. There is then a blurb at the bottom about using the Network Setup Wizard, which screwed up my internet connection when I used it -- so I really don't wanna go that route again.

Why is the option to share not available to me?

I should point out that I am trying to share the connection with my IBM ThinkPad running Windows 2000 Pro with the two systems connected via a parallel direct cable connection.

ICS is not supported under Direct Cable Connection. Remember that you have only a Netbui, not a TCP/IP protocol stack when using DCC.

I do not know of even Third-Party tools that support ICS or other proxy services under Netbui alone.

I do not think there is a resolution to this other than to use a PCMCIA adapter and use cross-over Cat 5 cables to connect the workstations.

invest in a hub, a 2nd network card for the second system (desktop?), and 2 normal cat5 cables to go from the 2nd nic to the hub and the notebook to the hub.

then you can set up ICS.

you can also use wireless networking, less mess more $$

This was just a temporary measure anyway -- I did plan on a wireless network.
