Here is my problem: I have two Windows XP machines (the host is XP pro and the client is XP Home) that I’m trying to share the Internet connection via an 802.11b card. However, after many fruitless hours I’m still not getting through to the Internet. The settings are:
Desktop: Its Internet service is supplied via a wireless link to a satellite.
LAN NIC IP:192.168.0.1
DNS: 198.6.1.1
D-Link DL614+ : on the LAN side (not using the WAN, although did try to no avail) 192.168.0.2
Laptop client IP 192.168.0.4
DNS: 192.168.0.1 / 198.6.1.1 (this is the DNS of our Sat provider)
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
I can ping all the way to a ORiNOCO radio in our Library and to the radio on a remote tower but cannot get out to the Internet. When I take my laptop to work in the Library I can connect to the radio there just fine. I have used the ntsh utility to clean the IP stack and still no connectivity to the Net. I’m stumped!
Also on the ntsh utility, would it affect how some Internet sites like Microsoft’s Update site views my machine. When I tried to update it tonight the site said my machine was not a Windows machine. Cookies are not blocked on the machine.
