I have two pcs, a peer to peer network, internet connection sharing (ICS)enabled, USB ADSL modem connected to PC "A". As backup I also have a pay as u go dial up connection.

A:Win XP SP2
AVG
Win Firewall - I intend to switch to Zone Alarm
(I haven't yet installed spybot but intend to)
configured as server for ICS

B:Win ME
AVG
Zone Alarm
Spybot

I eventually got the above set up working great except for occaiasional difficulty dropping the connection and difficulty making the broadband connection from B if A was in standby mode. I think I have a minor issue with quality of phone line and probably some tweak to the settings to get A to wake up. None of these are major issues.

A couple of days ago I had problems with A and it could not be booted. Eventually by disabilng firewall on B and re-installing ADSL drivers etc etc I enabled B to connect direct to the internet either via Dial up 56k or broadband. However it was lots of hassle, half an hour on a help line and I am not entirely sure what I did that achieved my goal.

Now both pcs are operating but some of the changes I made to b mean that currently it won't share the IC. I am looking for advice about the necessary changes so that I can get things back to how they were AND know what to do to quickly enable direct connection from PC B if I ever have the need in the future.
B

Thanks,

Gavin

Hmm, perhaps I posted too soon. All I seem to have to do is plug the USB ADSL modem into computer B and so long as I connect manually using the DUN icon it works. Switch off connect the modem back to computer A and B can connect to the internet automatically when I click send/recieve or open a page in internet explorer. Funny how it took 2 days last time around!

Thanks,

Gavin
