Installed w2k pro on hp vectra. i can connect to the network, but my internet connection fails. dns is entered properly. any suggestions?

If you open a Cmd Prompt window, or go to Start > Run and type in IPCONFIG /ALL, does it show the DNS and IP address you expect?

Have you checked your browser Connections (LAN settings) to be sure you do (or don't) have a proxy set up depending on how you are connected to the internet? If you are directly connected and don't need a proxy, then be sure that the Automatic Script and Proxy Server are both unchecked.

One other is if you dial into your ISP, then check the dialup settings in the connections section of your browser too. Each dial up entry has it's own settings for Proxy script/server. JSV

More than likely it is incorrect settings in IE, Open IE, click Tools, Internet Options, Connections and then LAN Settings and make sure that everything there is correct, you may need to look at another PC to make sure you have the right settings. CJ
