I can't get to the internet to download or install spy-bot, or ad-aware because I keep getting the error wscgetproviderpath failed. I've tried booting in the safe mode, that won't work either. Any suggestions would be helpful. I could send a hijackthis log if that would help, I am currently on a friends computer using this forum.

Yes, send a Hijack this and we will see what we can do...
You may have to download MS Antispyware and Spybot via Internet on another PC and then burn it to CD or some other media device to clean the machine.

Hi, it's likely a problem with your winsock stack.
Try lspfix

Thanks for all the suggestions, before I could get anything done the HD crashed!!! The system says I have no HD. I've booted in win98 and tried to run scandisk, but it could not fix the errors, (too many errors to correct). I am now in the process of installing XP!!
