Hey, guys.

I'm using Bellsouth (our local phone co.) DSL. The odd thing is.. well, first, during storms, we disconnect the phone line from the modem and shut its power off. A year ago, our modem was blown in a bad electrical storm. Now, after we do this, then boot everything up, the connection drops every two minutes or so for about a day, then the problem clears up. Any suggestions/ideas?

Thanks.

When you pwer off they typically release your IP to another user, but frequently yours will still try to use it which creates a conflict.
When you restart try going to the command prompt and type ipconfig /release, wait for the reply and then type ipconfig /renew
This would reassign a fresh ip address for you.

also after storms remember they don't just affect you but they affect everyone. Some of the phone lines are in bad shape out there. Squirrels chew the casing off the big cables and when it rains water gets inside these cables which can cause problems for phone systems.

If after rain your phone reception is not as clear as usual this could be the problem. and after a day it clears up, this tells me that it most likely is that problem because it takes about a day for the water to evaporate out of the cable.

Some of those cables have been up on those poles for over 40 years too.
