Ok first this isn’t an XP pro question but I hope somebody can help. On my home network my main com is win me but my laptop is XP home and the com upstairs is win me. The problem is that my laptop no longer connects to the internet when connected to my network. The connection is fine and the com upstairs connects fine. There is only one connection to the Internet and that is through the main computer. The laptop is set to automatically detect settings, as it should be. I am not aware of changes to any setting but maybe the kids have been messing, I just dont know. If anybody has any suggestions they would be appreciated as I don’t really want to format and start again. Thx in advance

I don't know if this will be of any help to you, but I just had the same sort of problem with my laptop connecting to the internet. The solution that worked for me was to drop to a command prompt and type "ipconfig/release" then type "ipconfig/renew". This renewed the ip address and all was fine after that.

As I said...I don't know if this will help you, but you might give it a shot.

Well I don’t believe that! It worked! Ok thanks very much sgreenwood I have been fiddling around 4 days

It may be that your connection client for your wireless adapter is attempting to intialize too soon during startup. You could try making it the last entry in your set of startup programs. You could also try right-clicking on your connection icon, selecting disable, and then right-clicking again and selecting enable.

But as a guess there is likely an update for your wireless adapter software. Visit their web site and see if a new software and/or firmware release has been done.
