Internet access through SOE

HI all
I have a SOE with 3.2.55 and a cable modem. I plug the RJ45 from the cable modem to the wan port on the SOE.

I plug a lap top into any set and I do not get the internet.
Is there anything I have to program for internet access.

Are you really that naive?
Of course you have to program something.

What to program depends on the cable modem, is it configured as a router or as a bridge.
Usually if it is programmed as a router and you connect your PC as a DHCP client you get a private ip address like 192.168.1.2
If it is setup as a bridge you get a public ip address like 82.110.60.186.

Program the LAN 2 a DHCP client, and enable NAT. Reboot IP Office and then you can connect Internet from LAN1 but only if you use the IP Office as the default gateway.
The easiest way to do this is to set LAN 1 as a DHCP server.

If you want to use IPO for remote IP telephony then with a bridged modem there is no problem, with a routed modem you have to do some programming on the modem and IP Office.
Fot a routed modem you must set LAN2 with a fixed IP Address within the same network range as the DHCP scope as the modems DHCP server, you must create a IP route in IPO where only the gateway IP Address is filled with the IP Address of the modem and send this to LAN2.
In the modem you program the IP address of the IPO as the DMZ server.
Then the IPO can be used for IP telephony.

I hope for you that you can catch up with this, if you cannot then call a IP Office/network specialist.

I went into Lan2 and clicked on Nat and client.
When I try to put in the IP address and subnet mask and
click ok, It disappeers and won't program.

The setup I have is, the cable modem to a router and from the router to the IP Office.

Then disable the DHCP server on LAN2, program a fixed ip address for LAN2, enable NAT.
Create a new IP router :
IP address = 0.0.0.0
IP Mask = 0.0.0.0
Gateway = IP address of the router
destination = LAN 2

Set LAN 1 as DHCP Server and fill the DNS stuff with the ip address of the router.

I set it up, But soon as it reboot it never came back,
nor did the phones. Now I can't get back into the system at all. Is there a way to get back in remotely.

I've tried getting back in through remote IP address, but no success. I used 192.168.99.0

I tried use the DTE port, but when I type int the ATX command all I get is OK.

What am I doing wrong?

If you enabled DHCP server on LAN 1 then you must get a ip address from the ipo. if yo gave LAN 2 a fixed ip address then you can connect here with a cross cable.
You can check the current settings if you load the config off-line.

I did enable lan 1 as server, but the mistake I made, was putting the router address 192.168.0.1 in the primary address of Lan 1 and Lan 2.

I did try the cross over cable on the wan port and using the address 192.168.0.107 on my PC and 192.168.0.106 on lan2
the default gateway is 192.168.0.1 and still nothing.

connect the serail cable to the DTE port, start hyperterminal setings : 38400,8,N,1.
Type : at-debug and enter
you should get a message like Hello bla bla
type : eraseconfig and press enter
wait for the reply
type : erasenvconfig and enter
wait for the reply
type: reboot
system will reboot and the unit will be factory default with 192.168.42.1 on LAN 1 and 192.168.43.1 on LAN 2.
load the config off-line in the manager, make the right changes and send the file off-line back to IPO with a full reboot.
Then you have restored the IPO back.

OK cool I got it back Thank you, I didn't think it was
posible.
Now I will try to get internet up and running.

Should I tick the NAT box on Lan 1 also for internet set up.

I still can't get Internet access through IP Office.
Do I need to check the NAT box on Lan 1 also.

Can someone tell me what steps in programming need to be done to get internet access working.

I think there are some important networking questions we need answers to before we can really give you the correct solution... it's not just plug and play.. could be pending your network setup...

Now with the questions...

1. So you have a cable modem, where are you going from the out on the cable modem? To which device?

2. Do you have a router on the network that acts as your DHCP Server, or will you be using the DHCP Server in the IP Office?

3. Do you have any other network devices other than the modem, IP Office and possibly a router?

4. What are your IP Settings on the computer / computers you are trying to connect to internet with?
Auto Detect or Static?
If Static, is the IP address availble?
If Auto, need DHCP Server.

I think with answers to the above we can get you fixed up...

Here is what I have, A cable modem going to a router. The router work good, The default address is 192.168.0.1
The DHCP address's on the router start at 192.168.0.100 to 200. The router is setup as auto detect.

Now I want to go from the router to the IPO, I have disabled the lan 2 and plugged into the router and I don't get anything.
Do I need a crossover cable and do I need to set up in internet service tab a deault gateway and point it to lan2.

I would like to be able to plug into the IPO or router using DCHP auto detect at anytime.

so with the ipo attached you have two (2) routers
the ipo is also a router
try it with out the other router attached

I don't get anything when I go from the Cable modem to the IPO. Do I need a crossover cable with that setup. I did see
the IP address show up in lan2 with the cable modem's address.

I think I am missing something in the internet service tab.

Ok .. Here we go...

Lets make sure the IP Office is ready to be part of your network. Connect your PC DIRECTLY to the IP Office and log in thorugh Manager. Below are the settings that will need to be made / changed in the IP Office.

System - LAN1
* Make sure your IP Address is set to an IP address that is BELOW the range DHCP is assigned and the IP Address is not set for another network device- example 192.168.0.10
* IP Mask - should be 255.255.255.0 - Unless you have changed this in your router.
*Make sure DHCP is set to DISBALED- AS you stated your router is assigning DHCP.

System - LAN2
* IP Address - who cares, we are going to use LAN1
* DHCP - Select DISBALED - Should not make a difference but be safe.

System - DNS
* If you have a DNS Server in your network you would enter this IP Address here... I'm guessing you do not so you can use the DNS supplied by ISP or a standard is 4.2.2.2 and a backup would be 4.2.2.1

Save these changes and reboot the IP Office.

After the reboot bring the IP Office back into your network... Your connections should go something like this... Cable modem to Router, Router to IP Office any of the LAN 1 PORTS!! not WAN! and just standard cat5 cables are fine... no crossover.

~Quick Note~ You could connect modem to IP Office to router... just as long as they are all connected together.

Make sure your setting on your PC are either set to a static IP that is available or you have it set to obtain automaticlly...

You should be good.. Internet should flow through modem to router and though IP Office.. you should be able to use any of the LAN 1 ports for internet traffic.

I think this is all of it... anyone see anyting I'm missing?

*** NOTE ! *** If you are upgrading / downgrading the manager firmware on the IP OFfice you SHOULD ASSIGN STATIC IP!!! VERY IMPORTANT!

I am still having problems getting this to work.
So I am just going to use cable moden right to the IP Office.
I am using the crossover lan cable to the wan port and my cable modem IP Adress is 72.141.197.36
sub net mask 255.255.255.128
default IP 72.141.197.1

DNS is 72.46.144.5
72.46.144.6
72.87.64.146

How would I put this Info in the Lan2 port Tab.
