internal user, external email address

is there a way to change a user's email address in the GAL?
i have one user who uses his own email address and i'd like that to be his default that shows up in the GAL.

Probably you can try this. Go to the user's property in the AD, uncheck that the the email / proxy addresses are automatically created by the RUS of that domain.

And edit the email address manually for that user.

Problem is that you have to keep track of this user, when the Proxy/ email address policies change for the whole company.

Easier would be to create an EMail enabled Recipient in the AD and let it be visible in the GAL.
