internal LAN messaging

Anyone know of a good internal LAN messaging app? I need an app that only allows you to chat intnerally and not on the internet. It also needs to have the ability to monitor chat conversations. I know microsoft has chat but it doesn't seem to have any monitoring abilities.

one of my guys setup Exodus for our lan. it runs on a linux box, logs are available to parse and it is free.

works great.

I'm not much of Linux guy. Anybody use anything else? Something free would be great :)
