When I try to run either Norton anti virus or system works I get an "internal error" msg with no identifying number. I tried to uninstall as suggested but I am unable to unistall nor can I install over the existing Norton programs. Any suggestions?

Try document 2000120111571948 on Symantec's Knowledge Base.

1) Check rights to the computer
2) Check the Windows event logs
3) Make sure the NAV and System Works services are stopped
4) If none of the above works, do a manual uninstall of NAV.

There are multiple documents available of the Symantec site which will show you how to do this.

In my pursuit of an answer I finally broke down an called Symantec's pay per incident line. This call was not a surprise to them and they emailed documentation and scripts (included below) to automatically clean up the damage. Did it work I don't at this point it appears that my efforts to fix the problem did more harm than good and I wound up reinstalling XP.

Thanks
