First: I'm an AVAYA Merlin/Legend/Magix newbie (and SMB phone systems in general).

Second: The 'problem' extension has been in use for a long time - not a new extension - by the same individual.

Third: We've got an AVAYA Merlin/Legend system (Rel. 7.0). One of our extensions, when called from another extension, is ringing on our admin phone. This didn't occur previously - that I'm aware of - at least our receptionist hadn't mentioned it before and I've been here about 1 year.

Suggestions as to what could be source of the problem? What should I check? The fix?

Thank you,
Ken O, Maintenance/CEC

Have the User of the Phone that SHOULDN'T BE RINGING observe the button that is ringing.

Once you know that, press the INSPECT Button, then press the BUTTON THAT WAS IDENTIFIED, and see how it is programmed.

I suspect it will show COVER (The other extension number) -I or -D.

Press the HOME BUTTON, once you are done.

If it shows what I suspect, Press the FEATURE BUTTON, dial ZERO, ZERO, touch the offending button, and then choose DELETE.

Press the HOME BUTTON, once you are done.

That should do it. Post back if it doesn't.

Thank you for the response MerlinMan. I've instructed our receptionist to write down her observations when it happens and to note any 'buttons' that light up when it happens. I'll update when I've gotten more results/information.

On the plus side, I used the 'Inspct' button on my own office phone and discovered an un-documented "Do Not Disturb" button (labelled now) and an "Agent ID" button (which I deleted since I'm guessing my extension was assigned to one of our sales personel, at one time).

Just an update to this issue.

In checking the 'Receptionists' notes and my own observations it was discovered that the offending extension (122) had 'Forwarding' enabled. Using the info I found on this site I've 'cancelled' that (i.e. set the extension to forward back to itself) feature.

Receptionist very happy, owner of extension not so much - i.e. he now has to answer his 'own' phone calls.
