A server recently upgraded from NT 4.0 to 2000 is having a problem where web pages won't load consistently. For example, I'll go to yahoo.com and it will say "page cannot be displayed" instantly, but then I'll click "refresh" like 3 times, and it will finally connect to the site and load on the 3rd time. This cycle just constantly repeats itself, and continues ever since the upgrade. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Maybe a DNS prob, try IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS then IPCONFIG /REGISTERDNS.. Not sure if that will do any good, but hopefully it will.... Matt Wray

That solution didn't change anything, but thanks for trying!

In IE, go to Tools, Internet Options, Connections. Do you have any other dialers/connectors listed in there? If so, either remove them, or choose Never Dial a Connection. Also, while you're in there, make sure the "Automatic Discovery" option isn't checked for networking. I've found that to be a pest....

At the time of the website not coming up, ping the site by and by ip address and see if you can do a tracert to it. Trying to see if it's dns related.

it was in the properties of IE !!! when I went to the properties of just the network connection, it did not show these options, but when I went to IE connection properties it was setup to use it's own IP as a proxy server. upon removing this, everything works fine... thanks Bronto! you are a stud. and to everyone else with an idea!

If your copy of IE was configured to use itself as a proxy server, it's likely that you installed some sort of Internet security/web filtering/web accelerator/adblocker software on the machine -- this is probably what changed the proxy setting as software such as this typically installs a proxy server locally. Just letting you know in case you were wondering as to the cause -- that might be it.

This server is actually running the latest version of Wingate... so you would be correct. Although, everything was working fine before the upgrade, so i'm not sure at what point the proxy setting changed.
