hi
I updated my internet exporer to the latest version.
Since then I can't logon to my ftp.
Before.
I would enter my user name and password,
It would work.
Now it does not.
This is the message I receive.
"FTP root at mywebsite.com
To view this FTP site in Windows Explorer, click Page, and then click Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer."
Can you help

It sounds like it might not be Internet Explorer. What exactly happens - is it the proxy error again?

Hi Smah !
First i get this
"FTP root at mysite.com
To view this FTP site in Windows Explorer, click Page, and then click Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer."
Then when I try what they say.I get this
"The folder 'ftp://mysite.com/" is read-only because the proxy server is not set up to allow
full access.

To move, paste, rename,or delete files ,you must use a different proxy. For information on
changing your proxy,contact your administrator"
What I don't understand is how come It was O.K yesterday.

And not today.
Thanks

Are you behind a proxy server? If not, make sure that there's nothing checked in IE's Internet Options, Connections tab, Lan Settings button. Have you tried accessing a different FTP server, such as Microsoft's ftp://ftp.microsoft.com

Hi Smah !

1)Are you behind a proxy server?
I don't know, How can I check.
2)I looked at the options
3)Lan Setting
Should I click Proxy server box
If I check this.
What do I write in the address box.
What number do I write for the port
4) different FTP server, such as Microsoft's ftp://ftp.microsoft.com
How can I use this.
...............

There are ftp programs .
Do you know any.
If I don't have any other options I have to do this
Thanks

ftp://mysite.com/
Is it possible the forward slash is causing the failure of the conncetion.

ftp://mysite.com
I write the address but it atuomaticlly uses the forward slash.
Because i origannly used the forward slash
Thanks

1) As a MIS, I would think you'd be made aware if a proxy server is being used. If you don't know, you'll need to ask your system administrator.

3) The proxy settings should be enabled if they apply and not enabled if they do not apply. If applicable, your system administrator will give you the proxy server address.

4) Use it the same way you'd use your FTP server (download only). Can you download from the MS FTP server without any errors or do you get the proxy error there as well?

There are many FTP programs, there is one built into Explorer, there is the command line FTP program built into all versions of Windows and there are thousands of third-party FTP clients.

Hi Smah !
I have given up trying to fix this mess.
I have downloaded smart ftp.
It seems to be working O.K.
Thanks

to get the windows explorer view just make a windows explorer shortcut and in the properties box add to the path ftp://blah blah. then change the name of the icon to "ftp site" and whalla.

Hi wncpc !
How are you.
out of curiosity I visited this page and I noticed your message.
I am doing ok with smart ftp.
but i would like to understand your message.
can you be more clear please.
Thanks

wncpc is telling you a way to make a shortcut on your desktop or some place. You could also easily open 'My Computer' and type the ftp site's address in the address bar.

Hi smah & wncpc
I think I am doing what you guys are saying.
The problem is the same .
Thanks

correct onto2 I was referring to a shortcut.

additionally, instead of opening internet explorer, open the windows explorer program (start>programs>accessories>windows explorer) or type explorer from the run command. then put the sddress ftp://mysite.example in the address bar. that should open it up if you dont have some firewall blocking you. also make sure ftp (or tcp ports 20-21 i think) is checked in your windows firwall settings.

or you can uninstall internet explorer 7 and revert to internet explorer 6 which seems to function "normally".

i suspect Microsoft will patch IE7 for this because it seems to be an outstanding problem for alot of people.

Hi wncpc !

"(start>programs>accessories>windows explorer)"
I tried this and my sygate was blocking it.

smah told me to this before but I could not figure out how to unblock the firewall.

This time I unblocked the sygate and it is working.
At least I learned how to use "smart ftp"
The explore is simpler .
Thanks to you guys

I am having a similar issue. I have Win XP Pro and IE7 when i try to open a the site opens but with anything other than this like it gives the error that everyone is posting. "res://ieframe.dll/dnserrordiagoff.htm"
Internet Explorer cannot Display this page. I have kick my own a@# for 4 days straight trying to single out this event and find a corrupt file. It also will not go to the correct site if a do a google search and click a link. I get redirected to another site. Then i hit back and click it again and i get a different site. On the 3rd attempt like clockwork it finally goes to the correct site. This is very precise it happen every time. I have Adaware SE, AVG free, RegCure, Spybot S&D, and Hijack this and nothing will fix this. It only happens when attempting to hit a secure site that has anything other than will go to some others that are not still are secure. I have already done all the tips the web has mentioned except downgrading to IE6. I am an experienced Virus and Adware hunter. I have never seen this. My laptop with WinXP Pro cannot view the site. But i have a Laptop with Tablet version, Exact same IE settings and i even you the same router. Someone point me the right way PLEASE????!!

srichey, please start a new thread for this issue. Your question has nothing to do with FTP or any part of the earlier discussion.
